Nậm Đăm cultural village is a Dao community tucked into the Quản Bạ valley, just a short distance from Tam Sơn town. Many travellers choose it for their first night on the Hà Giang Loop: it's quiet, with rammed-earth houses under tiled roofs and terraced fields all around. Nậm Đăm is also within the free pick-up and drop-off area for the Quản Bạ paragliding site, which makes it very convenient if you want to sleep in the village and fly first thing the next morning.
Where is Nậm Đăm and how do you get there?
Nậm Đăm is in Quản Bạ district, at Km45 of the Loop counting from Hà Giang city. From central Tam Sơn, follow the side road into the village for a few kilometres; the road is narrow but paved, and both motorbikes and cars can get through.
- From Hà Giang city: about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours by road, via the Bắc Sum pass and Quản Bạ Heaven's Gate.
- From the Quản Bạ flying site: just a few dozen minutes' drive within the valley.
- If you're travelling by bus or shared car, you can get off in Tam Sơn and ask your homestay to pick you up.
The last stretch into the village has a few tight bends. It's best to arrive before dark, especially in the foggy season from late autumn to early spring.

Small paths around the village lead past terraced fields, maize gardens and streams. Late afternoon or early morning brings the best light, with mist still lingering over the rooftops.
