Is there a weight limit for paragliding?
Your weight affects the wing, take-off speed and landing speed. Guests over 90 kg can still fly — just let us know in advance so the team can arrange a suitable pilot and equipment.

Most healthy adults can go tandem paragliding. At the Quản Bạ flying site, if you weigh over 90 kg, simply let us know before you book so the team can arrange a suitable pilot and wing. Mebayluon doesn't publish a fixed maximum weight, because whether you can fly also depends on the equipment and the day's wind conditions. This article explains why weight matters and what you should do.
Why does the team ask for your weight?
When you book, you'll be asked for each guest's weight. It isn't a polite formality. This information helps the team:
- Choose a wing with the right weight range. Each tandem wing is designed by the manufacturer to fly well within a range of total weight (passenger + pilot + equipment).
- Assign a suitable pilot. The combined weight of both people should sit comfortably within the wing's weight range.
- Plan the flight time. With a higher total load, the pilot may prefer a time slot with suitable wind for an easy take-off.
How does weight affect the flight?
At take-off
A higher total load means the wing needs a little more speed to "take" the weight. On the paragliding launch (a mountainside at about 950 m), the pilot waits for a favourable breeze so you only need to run a few steps.
In the air
A more heavily loaded wing flies slightly faster and loses height slightly faster. You'll hardly notice any difference — it still feels smooth and wide open.
At landing
The touchdown speed may be a bit faster, so putting your feet forward and running a few light steps as instructed matters even more. The landing field in Quản Bạ is a wide, open flat field beside the river.
Summary by weight
| Your weight | What you need to do |
|---|---|
| Children (from 3 years old) | Tandem flight with a pilot, each child in their own harness; under-18s must have a guardian present |
| Adults up to 90 kg | Give your weight when booking as usual |
| Over 90 kg | Let us know in advance so the team can arrange a suitable pilot and wing |

Is paramotor any different?
With a paramotor (PPG), the engine helps the wing reach speed on flat ground, so take-off is usually easier for guests with a higher total load. Even so, you still need to give your weight, because the pilot also chooses the wing and set-up based on the total load. The standard 15-minute tandem PPG package costs 2.590.000đ/guest.
Give your exact weight — don't shave off a few kilos
Many people feel self-conscious and give a lower figure. Please be accurate, because:
- The wing is chosen based on the figure you give.
- At the site, the team may weigh you again at check-in.
- An inaccurate figure could mean waiting for a change of equipment or moving to another time slot.
Your weight information is used only for arranging your flight and for insurance.
Weight and how the flight feels
Many guests worry that heavier people "won't get off the ground" or will have a less enjoyable flight. In reality, when the total load is within the wing's range, the experience is almost identical: you still take off after a few running steps, still glide smoothly over the Tam Sơn valley, and still get GoPro photos and video. The only difference is in the team's preparation — which is exactly why you should let us know early.
Besides weight, what are the other requirements?
Weight is not the only factor. You need to:
- Be able to run a few short steps down a gentle slope.
- Have no heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy or spinal injury.
- Not be pregnant.
- Not drink alcohol before flying.

Tips for heavier guests
- Give your weight as soon as you book, clearly in the guest details.
- Wear trainers with a good grip, not sandals.
- Be flexible with your time slot: the pilot may suggest the time with the most favourable wind.
- Listen carefully to the landing instructions in the briefing.
- If you're in a group, book together so the team can assign pilots for everyone — groups of 3 get 50.000đ off per guest, groups of 4 or more get 70.000đ off per guest.
Frequently asked questions
I weigh 100 kg — can I fly?
Please let us know before booking. The team will check the equipment, pilots and wind conditions and confirm the details with you.
Can very light people fly?
Yes. Children from 3 years old can already fly tandem with a pilot. The team will choose a wing and harness suited to lighter passengers.
What if the wind on the day isn't suitable for my total load?
You can reschedule to another time slot or day free of charge. Keep an eye on conditions on the flying weather forecast page.
