The Quản Bạ flying site has two fields, about 2 km apart as the crow flies but more than 10 km apart by road. The paragliding take-off sits on a mountainside at 950 m, only about 3 km from the centre of Quản Bạ (the former Tam Sơn town). The landing field lies on the floor of the Miện River valley at 450 m, and it is also the take-off field for powered paragliding (paramotor, PPG). This article gives directions to both fields, with a 3D map we built from open map data.
Paramotor guests, paragliding guests after landing, family and friends
Paste the coordinates into Google Maps for navigation. The check-in meeting point is in Quản Bạ commune; the flight team sends the exact location via Zalo/WhatsApp when they confirm your flight. If you book a flight, the team's vehicle shuttles you between the meeting point, the take-off and the landing field, and this is included in the ticket price, so you don't need to drive up to the take-off yourself. The directions below are for people travelling on their own by motorbike or car, or for family and friends who want to watch the flights from the landing field.
Leg 1: Hà Giang city to Quản Bạ centre (about 48 km)
Follow National Road 4C towards Đồng Văn, which is also the first stretch of the Hà Giang Loop. The road climbs the Bắc Sum pass and then up to Cổng Trời Quản Bạ (Heaven's Gate, a pass at about 1,130 m). From Cổng Trời, another 3.4 km downhill brings you to Quản Bạ centre, at the foot of the Twin Mountains (Cô Tiên). The whole leg usually takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on your vehicle and the weather.
If you come by bus, get off in Quản Bạ centre. From Hà Giang city, the flight team offers a 4-seat car transfer at 500,000 VND per car each way, which you can choose when booking.
Leg 2: Quản Bạ centre up to the paragliding take-off (3.1 km)
From Quản Bạ centre, continue on National Road 4C towards Yên Minh for about 1.6 km.
At the junction where a small road leaves the highway, bear left onto the road up to the take-off.
Continue about 1.5 km on the small, steep road up to the take-off on the mountainside at 950 m.
From the take-off, the whole Miện River valley opens up in front of you, and you can see the landing field far below. The road up is small, narrow and climbs steadily: drive slowly, and call the flight team in advance if you're in a large vehicle so they can show you where to park.
Leg 3: Down to the landing field and paramotor take-off by the Miện River (10.5 km)
From the take-off junction, continue on National Road 4C for about 8 km towards Yên Minh. The road descends the pass through a series of hairpin bends into the valley.
Near the valley floor, at a junction with a small concrete road, turn right off the highway.
Go about 0.9 km to reach the flat field beside the Miện River, at 450 m.
This is where paragliding guests land, and also where paramotor (powered paragliding) guests take off and land. The field is wide and flat, surrounded by maize and rice fields with the Miện River winding around it, so family and friends can stand at the edge of the field and watch both take-offs and landings.
If you're continuing the Hà Giang Loop after your flight: from the landing-field junction, National Road 4C runs along the valley for about another 7.6 km to the level of Cán Tỷ commune, then on to Yên Minh (about 50 km from Quản Bạ centre) and Đồng Văn. So the landing field is right on your way, with no need to turn back. The community-based tourism village of Nặm Đăm and the linen-weaving village of Lùng Tám are also close to the flying site; both are on the map at the top of this article.
Paragliding or paramotor: where do you go first?
Paragliding (PG): check in at the meeting point in Quản Bạ commune (exact spot sent when your booking is confirmed), the team's vehicle takes you up to the 950 m take-off, you fly for 9–15 minutes down into the valley and land at the field by the Miện River. After landing, the team's vehicle takes you back to the meeting point.
Powered paragliding (PPG): take-off and landing are at the same field by the Miện River, so it's the only field you need to know; after check-in, the team's vehicle takes you there. The standard flight is 15 minutes, the long flight 22–25 minutes. See the detailed flight route in our article Quản Bạ paramotor flight route.
The tandem paramotor runs on a wheeled frame: you sit in the front seat, while the pilot sits behind you and handles both the engine and the wing.
The flight team works from 06:30 to 18:30. Exact flight times are confirmed on the morning of your flight day after checking the wind, so keep your phone reachable and be at the meeting point 15–30 minutes before your flight time to check in.
Tips if you're travelling on your own
Download an offline map of the Quản Bạ area to your phone beforehand, in case you lose signal on the pass.
The descent into the Miện River valley has many hairpin bends: shift into a low gear and don't coast.
If you want to watch without flying, go to the landing field: it's the best spot to see both paragliders landing and paramotors taking off.
If you need help on the road, call or message on Zalo/WhatsApp +84 964 073 555 (Mr. Mỹ, chief pilot) or +84 385 907 789 (flight coordinator).
